Dear Friend,

I write to provide a quick update to you on some of my latest actions to support Indiana's First Congressional District.

High-Tech Crime Unit at Purdue Northwest

I recently attended the announcement of a brand new High-Tech Crime Unit located in Hammond at Purdue Northwest.  I am grateful for the leadership of everyone in the Lake County Prosecutor’s office, Purdue Northwest, and our state legislators for their collaborative partnership to ensure law enforcement personnel have every tool and resource available to do their job safely and protect the public.

Infrastructure Upgrades in Gary

Additionally, I joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Chicago District, the City of Gary, and the Gary Sanitary District in breaking ground on a sewer infrastructure project.  This infrastructure investment will positively impact the quality of life and strengthen the ability of families and businesses to thrive in the City of Gary and our region.

Supporting Organized Labor

Further, I spoke on the House floor to encourage all leaders of management and the United Auto Workers (UAW) to find common ground and ensure workers receive their fair share of the success of the auto industry.  I encouraged all parties to recognize the inherent value of the UAW workers and their essential contributions to the success, not just in the auto industry, but for the economic success of all of our communities and the expansion of the middle class.

Congressional App Challenge

The Congressional App Challenge is an annual nationwide academic competition for Middle School (6th – 8th grades) and High School (9th – 12th grades) students to create and exhibit their software application, or "app," for mobile, tablet, or computer devices on a platform of their choice.  It is my honor to be able to host the 2023 Congressional App Challenge for students in Northwest Indiana interested in the STEM fields, and I encourage students to visit the page on my website for more information on how to participate.
