If you were forwarded this email, be sure to subscribe to my e-newsletter here!

This week I want to share with you my visit to Lancaster County’s Community Vaccination Center, submissions from the Congressional Art Competition, a legislative update including legislation which I introduced, and days of recognition. As we continue to reopen our nation and as more people get vaccinated, we should be sure to follow CDC guidelines

I enjoy hearing from you and responding to questions from your emails, phone calls, and letters. If you would like to share your concerns or opinions with me, or if you have questions about legislation or specific votes, you can send me an email here.

Visit to Lancaster County Community Vaccination Center

On Tuesday, I visited the Lancaster County Community Vaccination Center with Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health’s Chief Clinical Officer Dr. Michael Ripchinski.

The exceptional work being done at the Lancaster County Community Vaccination Center is helping our community, state, and nation move forward. I appreciated the opportunity to receive a first-hand look at the extraordinary operations. The vaccines are safe and effective. They will help save lives and allow our community to reopen.

I received the vaccine earlier this year in January and would encourage you to sign up to receive a vaccine, if you have not already done so. Everyone should make health decisions for themselves, but if you have questions about the vaccine, please talk to your physician or health care provider.

I am thankful for the efforts of all the public and private community partners to make COVID-19 vaccines, a #ShotOfHope, available to members to our community. Thank you to the hardworking staff making this possible.

To schedule an appointment at the Lancaster County Community Vaccination Center at Park City visit www.vaccinatelancaster.org, call 717-588-1020 or walk-in to receive your vaccine.

York County residents can find additional information on vaccine distribution at https://www.vaccinateyorkpa.org/

Thanks to all the community partners in Lancaster and York Counties working together on COVID-19 vaccination efforts. Everyone aged 16 years or older is eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.

Art Competition

Each year my office participates in the Congressional Art Competition, which provides an opportunity for talented and aspiring high school artists to have their artwork displayed in our nation’s Capitol Building.  Every year my office receives some truly exceptional entries. Check out this year’s entries.

Legislative Update

Earlier this week, I introduced a bipartisan bill with Reps. Gwen Moore and Lucy McBath to support survivors of domestic abuse. The bill would allow those experiencing domestic abuse to access funds in their 401(k)-retirement plan on a penalty-free basis, to help them leave an abusive living situation and to find safety.

Unfortunately, we have learned that in many instances of domestic abuse, a 401(k)-retirement account may be the only financial asset that is held individually and not jointly held between partners or spouses. Hardship withdrawals from 401(k) plans are already permitted for certain instances including significant medical bills, for home repairs due to natural disasters and things of that nature. Our bill would expressly permit withdrawals to be used by individuals to get out of domestic abuse situations.

Our legislation was advanced by the Committee on Ways and Means and was included as part of broader legislation known as the Securing a Strong Retirement Act of 2021 which provides additional incentives and aid to assist individuals in building a secure financial future. Read my statement on this legislation being approved by my colleagues on the Ways and Means Committee.

Stopping the Spotted Lanternfly
Last week I joined many of my PA Congressional colleagues in asking for needed funding to address the scourge of the spotted lanternfly, which could cause over $300 million in annual impact to PA’s economy. We must put an end to this bug. Read our letter by clicking here or the image below.

Here to Help
If you have any questions or issues with a federal agency, please know that my office is here to assist you. You can call our district or Washington, DC offices for assistance or visit my website for any issue with a federal agency or department.

Since taking office in 2017, my office has been able to return nearly $6 million to our constituents. This money returned to constituents comes in released tax refunds, processed Social Security payments and paid veterans’ benefits. While my office cannot guarantee a positive outcome for every constituent, my staff works to ensure that the hardworking taxpayers of Pennsylvania’s 11th District receive the benefits they are entitled to by law and that they are afforded the responsive and professional service they deserve.

To stay up-to-date on my work in the district and Washington, be sure to follow me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. You can also check out my YouTube page, where there are 100+ videos, many of which are direct responses to your questions.

Sincerely,

Lloyd Smucker
Member of Congress
