The Week in Review

Happy Friday!

I hope you had a wonderful week. I am grateful to serve you all in the 118th Congress. Read below to see what I’ve been working on this week.

President Trump's Second Indictments Reveals
Two-Tier Justice

I am appalled by the Biden Department of Justice (DOJ)’s decision to indict former President Donald Trump while turning a blind eye to President Joe Biden’s corruption.

The Biden Administration is weaponizing our federal police apparatus to target their top political opponent. What’s even more disturbing is that their move comes as soon as the House Oversight & Accountability Committee examined the FBI’s FD-1023 form dated June 30, 2020, and unveiled that both Joe Biden and Hunter Biden received $5 million from a foreign entity in a suspected bribery scheme. You can only wonder if DOJ’s actions yesterday were done to suppress these startling findings.

The Biden Administration’s actions mirror what an authoritarian regime looks like. It’s morally reprehensible and requires intervention from Congress.

I stand with President Trump and will continue to hold the DOJ accountable. Congress can hold them accountable by defunding their efforts during the appropriations process, executing the Holman Rule to remove and defund corrupt officials, and conducting oversight on its baseless investigations.

Holding House GOP Leadership Accountable

This week, some of my colleagues and I rebuked House Republican Leadership’s procedural vote on two pieces of legislation.

While I agree with the merits of the two bills that were up for consideration, I do not agree with House Leadership’s new coalition with Democrats that was formed to pass the latest increase to the federal debt ceiling. Rather than fighting for fiscal sanity and Republican priorities, Speaker McCarthy “negotiated” a bill that passed the House with more Democrat than Republican support, and hasn’t stopped taking victory laps since. I am concerned that House Leadership will continue to side with Democrats over Republicans during the upcoming Farm Bill, National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), and other significant legislation.

Moreover, I learned that House Leadership threatened to withhold legislation related to preserving Americans’ Second Amendment rights unless the sponsoring member of the legislation voted in favor of a rule for the McCarthy-Biden debt ceiling legislation. That is wrong and virtually extortion.

I will continue to hold House Leadership accountable so that your priorities and voices are better heard. I’ll keep you all posted.

Queen Creek Chamber of Commerce Coffee
and a Mic

I met with the Queen Creek Chamber of Commerce and its president, Chris Clark, to examine how President Biden’s economic, border, and regulatory policies are negatively impacting the East Valley.

I learned more about the challenges facing Arizona’s Fifth Congressional District and discussed solutions with top local experts.

It was a wonderful chat and I look forward to meeting the Chamber again soon.

House Oversight & Accountability Committee Activity

The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) finally provided our committee with a crucial document related to President Biden’s corruption schemes. This move comes after our chairman, Rep. James Comer (R-KY), threatened to hold FBI Director Christopher Wray in contempt of Congress if he didn’t provide the FD-1023 form dated June 30, 2020, to the committee.

This document will significantly help the Committee’s investigation into claims that then-Vice President Joe Biden accepted at least $5 million from a foreign national in exchange for policy preferences.

The form may also lead to additional information that can bring more charges against President Biden. If President Biden is found guilty of legal wrongdoing, then he must be impeached and removed from public office.

The committee and I are investigating these new documents and will keep you all informed of our findings.

The House Oversight & Accountability Subcommittee on National Security, the Border, and Foreign Affairs held a hearing titled “Help Wanted: Law Enforcement Staffing Challenges at the Border.”

The committee and I asked questions to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Inspector General (IG) Joseph Cuffari regarding how the Biden Administration's policies are making it more difficult for DHS to staff the southern border amid a historic border crisis.

A recent DHS Inspector General report found that migrant surges have “magnified existing staffing challenges” at DHS and law enforcement personnel “feel overworked and unable to perform their primary law enforcement duties.” The surge is additionally lowering morale among immigration officials working at the southern border.

I will continue to advocate for the needs of our brave men and women serving at our border and will get them the resources they need from Congress.

House Judiciary Committee Activity

The House Judiciary’s Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement held a hearing titled “The Border Crisis: Is the Law Being Faithfully Executed?”

My colleagues and I heard testimony from former acting Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Chad Wolf, former Acting Director, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Joseph Edlow, and Distinguished Fellow, Heritage Foundation, Steven Bradbury.

I thank these individuals for their expertise. They made it clear that DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas should be impeached and that virtually all of our immigration enforcement laws are not being enforced.
