Congressional Update from U.S. Congressman Andy Barr

FY2024 Community Project Funding Announcements

Community Project Funding requests are Congressionally directed spending requests submitted by Members of Congress for their respective districts to the House of Representatives Appropriations Committee for potential inclusion in the appropriations process. Each request must meet strict eligibility guidelines set by House Appropriations, and requests are required to have broad community support. Some highlights of the Fiscal Year 2024 Announcements:

Central Regional Kentucky Airport

The Central Kentucky Regional Airport received $3.5 million in federal funding to construct a general aviation terminal. This new facility will spur economic development in the region and ensure Kentucky is at the forefront of aviation education. I joined Eastern Kentucky University President McFadden and local and state officials in Madison County, the City of Richmond, and the City of Berea to celebrate this funding.

Northern Scott County Sewer Project

It was an honor to join Scott County Judge Executive Joe Pat Covington, members of the Scott County Fiscal Court, and Sadieville Mayor Robbie Wagoner to announce $1.75 million in federal funding for the Northern Scott County Sewer Project. These funds will be used for planning, design, environmental analysis/documentation, property acquisition, and other related services to facilitate the reconstruction of Scott County’s sewer system located within the US-25 Cincinnati Pike Corridor between Georgetown and Sadieville.

Legacy Business Park

The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government was awarded a $10 million federal HUD grant to complete the 200-acre Legacy Business Park located off Georgetown Road and I-75/64. The grant fulfilled a total of $23.5 million needed to develop the new industrial park’s infrastructure. This longstanding project will create over two thousand jobs in the area, and I am proud to have assisted in delivering Lexington/Fayette Countians hard-earned tax dollars back to the community.

Park Jenette Industrial Park

Jessamine County Fiscal Court received $4 million in federal funding to kickstart the project’s Phase III by developing 91 additional acres of the Jenette Industrial Park. This industrial park is being developed in a three-phased plan with the acquisition and development of the land and financing already being completed. This project received support from Jessamine County Fiscal Court, Jessamine County Joint Economic Development Authority, the City of Nicholasville, Bluegrass Area Development District, Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development, and Kentucky Association for Economic Development.
