Congressional Update from U.S. Congressman Andy Barr

Service Academy Sendoff Ceremony

Honored to host the annual Academy Sendoff Ceremony for Kentucky’s 6th Congressional District. The young men and women attending our nation’s service academies are truly exceptional. Congratulations to Janna Whaley who will be attending the U.S. Air Force Academy and to Michael Mungillo who will be attending the U.S. Naval Academy. A special thank you to First Lieutenant Johnathan Harris, a 2018 nominee and 2022 graduate of the Air Force Academy, for being the keynote speaker at this year’s event.

SCAPA Visits DC

The 5th Grade Class of the School of Creative and Performing Arts (SCAPA) at Bluegrass visits DC annually to experience the hub of our federal government and to see the numerous historical sites and memorials. It is a privilege to meet the next generation’s creative minds and to discuss with them the importance of history and my role as Kentucky’s 6th District Representative in the United States Congress.

Congressional Delegation Visits Taiwan

As a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and Co-Chair of the Congressional Taiwan Caucus, I recently traveled to Taiwan to express the US’ bipartisan support for the thriving democracy and to congratulate newly inaugurated President, Lai Ching-Te, and other administration officials. Our partnership with Taiwan is crucial not only for maintaining regional stability and countering aggressive actions from the People's Republic of China but also for securing vital economic interests, such as the production of advanced semiconductors that are essential for everyday products like Toyota Camrys and Lexmark printers, both of which are significant to Kentucky's economy.

Independent Electrical Contractors

Grateful for the opportunity to meet with Kentucky representatives of the Independent Electrical Contracts (IEC) to discuss their legislative priorities for the final months of the 118th Congress. Crucial legislation including the Occupational Safety and Health Act’s worker walkaround rule along with securing funding for national apprenticeship programs are key for the IEC’s success in today’s electrical trade.

Sincerely,
