Congressional Update from Andy Barr
Leading the Fight to Stop Deadly Fentanyl from Entering Kentucky

This week, the House passed my legislation to stop fentanyl at its root production and keep it out of Kentucky communities. The STOP Chinese Fentanyl Act will sanction fentanyl producers in China to inflict maximum financial pain on these bad actors flooding our country with this poison.
Here are the facts: the Drug Enforcement Administration estimates that a majority of fentanyl is sourced from China. Fentanyl now accounts for almost 7 out of 10 drug overdose deaths nationwide.
I’ll keep working to push this legislation to President Trump’s desk.
Big Beautiful Spotlight

I joined Americans for Prosperity in Georgetown to highlight the impact of the Big Beautiful Bill Act for Kentucky families. Prices were up 20% under Joe Biden’s failed Presidency. To help Kentucky families, seniors, and business recover, President Trump and I delivered a tax cut for working families that:
- Made the 2017 individual tax cuts permanent
- Expanded the Child Tax Credit
- Ended taxes on tips and overtime for working Kentuckians
- Ended taxes on social security for seniors
- Ended the death tax on almost 2 million family farms
- Invested in the next generation by establishing $1,000 investment account for every child born in the U.S. for the next four years
Raising the Barr for Our Veterans
Click the image above or here to watch the highlight reel of the Sixth District Veterans Coalition event I held recently.
During the August work period, I held an event with the Sixth District Veterans Coalition at Eastern Kentucky University to update our veterans on the work I’m doing to advocate for them.
My office has favorably closed over 1,000 cases for our veterans, and this year, the Department of Veterans Affairs has processed more disability claims than ever before. As a member of the Congressional DOGE Caucus, I’ve supported work that VA Secretary Doug Collins and President Trump have done to make the VA more efficient.
As a result of our work, the backlog of veterans waiting for VA benefits has dropped by more than 37%, after rising 24% during the Biden Administration according to the VA. The VA has also reported that in July, the VA completed more than 300,000 ratings claims in a single month for the first time ever. The VA is processing claims faster in FY25 than in FY24, completing them 17.8% faster even as receipts are 10% higher than this time last year.
Barnstorming the Sixth District
From visiting with business leaders to our great factory workers in Georgetown to our bourbon producers, August was jam packed with events speaking to and hearing from Kentuckians who make our state go each day.
I’m going to continue working on your behalf in Washington to get the federal government out of your way, cut taxes, grow the economy, and make our Commonwealth prosper. |
