News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

It’s been great to be back in Minnesota these last few weeks. I always enjoy this time to visit with my constituents and hear about the issues most important to you and your families.

There are a number of issues that are top of mind for families as we approach the end of summer. One that I’ve heard a lot about is the continued increase in prices we’re seeing on food, fuel, and other types of goods. I hope you will read on to learn more about our work to address rising inflation…

Addressing Rising Inflation

As prices on everyday goods continue to rise and the Biden Administration promises to spend trillions more in the coming months, we have no choice but to redouble our efforts to rein in our spending and get control of our debt.

This past week, I joined Congressman Patrick McHenry, Republican Leader of the House Financial Services Committee in sending a letter to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) asking the agency to report to Congress on the impact of Democrats’ reckless new government spending proposals on our economic recovery.

You can read our letter here.

We asked the CBO to analyze the disastrous effects of Democrats’ irresponsible spending on GDP growth and consumer prices. We have all felt the increase in prices at the pump, the grocery store, and beyond, and it’s unsustainable.

As Democrats look to spend another $3.5 trillion through the partisan reconciliation process - in an addition to $1.2 trillion on infrastructure spending that’s not paid for - it’s time to take a hard look at our spending for the sake of future generations. A massive spending spree will have short and long-term implications for the economy, especially on GDP and inflation. It’s no surprise that recent data suggests the economy is slowing as prices continue to rise. New spending proposed by Democrats will only make our problem worse.

I will continue to fight against excess spending and disastrous economic policies that threaten Americans’ way of life.
