News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

As we finish the last few weeks of work in Congress before the start of the new year, I’m spearheading several efforts to make Minnesotan voices heard on the national stage.

Read on to learn more about my work…

Building a Lasting Memorial for Local Heroes

On December 5, 2019, a Minnesota Army National Guard helicopter crash took the lives of three Minnesotans: Warrant Officer Candidate Kort Plantenberg, Chief Warrant Officer 2 James A. Rogers Jr. and Chief Warrant Officer 2 Charles P. Nord. Two years later, our community still feels loss from this tragedy.

This Sunday, I announced my effort to create a lasting memorial to these brave Minnesotans. I am proud to be introducing legislation to rename the Avon post office in Kort Plantenberg’s honor. I can’t think of a more fitting tribute to Kort’s sacrifice than a memorial in his own hometown.

Representative Michelle Fischbach (MN-07) will be introducing bills to rename post offices for Rogers and Nord, both from the Seventh Congressional District.

All three of these men gave their lives for our freedom. I’m grateful to have the chance to honor their service and sacrifice.

Fighting Rising Prices in the House Financial Services Committee

If you’ve recently purchased groceries for your family, stopped for gas or paid your home heating bill, you know that rising prices aren’t a myth—and they’re definitely not a “high class problem.”

Last week, I joined my colleagues in the House Financial Services Committee for a hearing with Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen and Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell. Secretary Yellen and Chairman Powell oversee fiscal and monetary policy for the Biden Administration, and both have the power to address this worsening inflation crisis.

Americans can’t afford for prices to continue to climb. I urged Secretary Yellen and Chairman Powell to take decisive action and address this crisis. Watch my remarks here.

Working with Local Leaders

It’s always a privilege to meet with Minnesotans who come out to Washington to advocate for their communities. I often find that these meetings are my most informative, and their advice on how to best serve our state is invaluable.

Last week, I had the chance to speak to local leaders from across Sherburne County. We talked about my work here in Congress, and how I can advocate for our community on the federal level. I’m grateful for the opportunity to sit down with them, and for their work to fight for Minnesotans.

Until next week, if you are in need of assistance or would like to share your thoughts with me, please write me an e-mail here.
