News from Representative David Scott

March 1, 2022

Greetings,

I hope this message finds you well. This February has been another busy month for my staff and me on Capitol Hill and back home in our Thirteenth Congressional District, and I wanted to share with you some important legislative updates from the past two weeks which will impact our communities and the nation at large.

COVID-19 Update in Georgia — Know Your COVID-19 Community Level

COVID-19 Community Levels are a new tool to help communities decide what prevention steps to take based on the latest data. Levels can be low, medium, or high and are determined by looking at hospital data and the total number of new COVID-19 cases in an area.

The Centers for Disease, Control and Prevention (CDC) last week updated COVID-19 safety guidance, no longer recommending that those in communities with a low or medium COVID-19 community level be required to wear masks indoors.

NOTE: People may choose to mask at any time. People with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask to protect themselves and others.

Everyone 5 years of age and older is now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine and every home in the U.S. is eligible to order four free at-home COVID-19 tests. The tests are completely free, and all orders ship in approximately 7-12 days. I encourage you to order your tests as early as possible so you have them when needed. Visit www.covidtests.gov to get started.

Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s Historic Nomination to the Supreme Court

Image

In Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, President Biden has nominated to the Supreme Court a jurist with exceptional qualifications and an impressive record of jurisprudence befitting a lifetime appointment to our country’s highest court.

Representation matters. Judge Jackson’s lived experience will add unprecedented perspective towards the Court’s duty to the Constitution and as we continue our march towards a more perfect union, her historic nomination is a meaningful step towards a Supreme Court that reflects the diversity of America.

The Senate has already confirmed Judge Jackson by a bipartisan vote three times, most recently last year to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, and I look forward to her fair consideration and swift confirmation as soon as possible.

Congressman David Scott Votes to Pass the America COMPETES Act

Image

This month, I was proud to pass the America COMPETES Act, a bill with bold, smart and strategic investments to power the success of America’s workers, businesses and economy that will help to boost every corner of our economy, including communities that have historically been left behind, and cement America’s leadership on the world stage for decades to come.

The bill was passed in the U.S. House of Representatives in early February and is now headed to the Senate for consideration.

Celebrating Black History Month

Image

“If there is no struggle, there is no progress.”

- Frederick Douglass

As we close out this #BlackHistoryMonth, we are reminded to continue to honor the contributions of Black Americans to the rich tapestry of American culture, and our legacy of perseverance and progress amidst the ongoing fight for equality and justice. In that same spirit, let us march on ‘til victory is won.

Historic Swearing-In For Douglas County Fire Chief

Image

I would like to extend my most sincere congratulations to Douglas County Fire Chief Roderick Jolivette on his official appointment! My staff was in attendance for his historic swearing in last week, and I am proud to honor and welcome him as the first Black Fire Chief in Douglas County history. A well-respected leader in the community, I know that his service in the United States Navy and his many years of experience in management and public service will be an incredible asset to Douglas County and its residents.

Welcoming Women's History Month

Congressman David Scott joined by Henry County Democratic Women organization.

Bravely facing adversity throughout history, women have unequivocally strengthened our nation through the advancement of societal, cultural, economic, and technological innovations to help usher in a new era of equality for all humankind. Without the great women in American history, we as a nation would not be where we are today.

As we celebrate #WomensHistoryMonth this March and honor the individuals and communities that have contributed so much to the progress of our nation, I am honored to express my gratitude to all women who continue to push this nation forward, so that together we can become a more perfect union.
