Chairman Scott Leads House Agriculture Hearings on Food Prices and SNAP Benefits

As the chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, I was proud to hold hearings this month to address competition and rising prices in our beef markets and to discuss ways we can provide stable and fair markets for consumers in Georgia's Thirteenth District and across the nation. In addition to these critical hearings, the committee marked up and advanced six bipartisan bills, and I look forward to their consideration on the House Floor.

Congressman David Scott Votes to Expand Support for Mothers and Infants by Improving Families’ Access to Baby Formula

Image

This month, with the passage of two pieces of important legislation, Congress took a critical step toward securing $28 million in emergency funding, as well as flexibilities for WIC benefits so that our hardworking families can access essential baby formula.

H.R. 7790, the supplemental funding bill, provides the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) critical resources to address recent shortages, increases the number of FDA inspection staff, and supports personnel working to relieve the shortage and stop fraudulent baby formula from entering the marketplace.

H.R. 7791, the Access to Baby Formula Act, supports those who use Special Supplemental Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) to purchase formula and other essential supplies.

Congressman David Scott Statement on Leaked SCOTUS Draft Opinion Overturning Roe v. Wade

This apparent draft Supreme Court opinion overturning Roe v. Wade represents the most disastrous and significant setback in access to abortion care this nation has seen in 50 years. This draconian ruling would strip away a woman’s freedom to her own choices—about her healthcare, her body, and her agency—and undercuts what has not only been established law for half a century, but a precedent rooted in basic principles of justice and personal liberty.

Should this ruling be finalized, I am disheartened that our grandchildren must face the same battles of two generations past. Now, we must do everything in our power to stand up for women’s healthcare and fight for their equal treatment under the law. We must enshrine abortion rights into law.

Congressman David Scott Visits Rodale Institute To Discuss The Role of Regenerative Organic Agriculture In Strengthening The Nation’s Food Supply

Image

It is imperative for our nation’s food supply that we continue to implement policy at the federal level that not only bolsters sustainable farming practices, but also mitigates the effects of climate change. It was a pleasure meeting with the farmers and researchers right here in #GA13 at Rodale Institute and Serenbe Farms, who are at the tip of the spear when it comes to regenerative organic agriculture.
