Sixth District Perspectives
with Congressman Ben Cline

It was a chaotic week in Washington, as the United States House of Representatives voted in favor of a Motion to Vacate the Office of the Speaker. Additionally, House Republicans passed a resolution in support of our allies in Israel as they respond to the horrific attacks of Hamas on their homeland. However, as we begin another week of session to elect a new Speaker of the House for the 118th Congress, rest assured I will continue my efforts to fight for America's families, to restore fiscal sanity, and to secure our wide-open southern border.

A Change in Power and Election of a New Speaker

Our work for the American people continues this week with the consideration of candidates to be the next House Speaker, and I am proud to support House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) for the role. Serving with him on the Judiciary Committee, I have seen his leadership traits firsthand, and I know those skills are exactly what the House of Representatives needs right now. Chairman Jordan is a man of integrity, intelligence, and principle. He is the only choice to unify Republicans, rally us around a conservative agenda for America, and begin to address the serious challenges our Nation faces.

This election comes after last week's vote on a Motion to Vacate the Speaker's chair, in which Representative Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was removed as Speaker by a vote of 216-210. This motion passed with 8 Republican votes and 208 Democrat votes. While there is very little time to pass the eight remaining individual spending bills to ensure that our federal government does not shut down on November 17th, rest assured that I will keep working until we get our Nation's fiscal house in order.

Supporting Our Allies In Israel

The State of Israel has been and continues to be our greatest democratic ally in the Middle East, sharing in our commitment to freedom and self-determination. Unfortunately, the Iranian-backed militant group Hamas has waged war on Israel.

We must make clear that the United States stands firmly with our ally, which has the right to defend itself and its people from these terrible attacks. That is why this week, I joined my colleagues in support of bipartisan legislation that reaffirms the United States' commitment to Israel's security and condemns Hamas' brutal war.
