Sixth District Perspectives
with Congressman Ben Cline

This past week, we saw thousands of people from across the Nation come to Washington, D.C., and march in support of our ally, Israel, as it defends itself against the Hamas terrorists. Unfortunately, we also saw more of the same business-as-usual spending policies that have devastated Americans' pocketbooks. Whether at our borders or abroad, the Biden Administration keeps pushing disastrous policies and dangerous foreign policy decisions that don’t protect the homeland or the interests of our allies. On a brighter note, I had the pleasure of meeting with Veterans and organizations up and down the Sixth District. From my family to yours, have a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and loved ones.

Demanding Fiscal Sanity in Washington

The fight to keep the government funded continued this past week. But to no one’s surprise, the House passed yet another spending deal that continues the same Biden-Pelosi-era bloated budget until early 2024. I could not support continuing these spending levels, which will only sink our country deeper into debt and increase prices for hardworking families across Virginia.

However, as we continue working to pass each of the remaining appropriations bills this fall, House Republicans must focus on cutting out woke and weaponized spending, reining in Big Government, and pursuing strong conservative policies that protect the freedoms we hold so dear.

President Biden Sends $10 Billion More To Iran

It is bad enough that the Biden Administration unfroze $6 billion in assets for Iran earlier this year. Now, while the Iranian-backed Hamas terrorist group continues to wage war on Israel, the Administration is freeing up $10 billion more for the terrorist regime. Greenlighting this funding isn't just a dangerous foreign policy move, but a challenge to the very existence of our greatest democratic ally in the Middle East.

Fighting to Secure the Border

According to a new report from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), there were 240,988 illegal crossings at the southern border last month, making it the highest number ever recorded in October. This brings the total number of illegal border crossings nationwide to 7.8 million, in addition to over 1.7 million known “gotaways” who evaded U.S. Border Patrol.

The Biden Administration’s failed policy decisions are only aiding and abetting this invasion at our open border. That is why earlier this year, House Republicans passed the Secure the Border Act (H.R. 2), which will end President Biden’s open border and amnesty policies driving this crisis, reform our asylum laws, provide Border Patrol agents more resources, and force the Administration to restart construction of the border wall. It’s far past time the Senate passes this strong border security package.

It was an honor to join many Veterans and members of the 116th Infantry Regiment and the Virginia Army National Guard at the 55th Annual Muster and Reunion. Thank you to these heroes for their sacrifice and service to our Commonwealth and our Nation.

I had a great time attending the JMU football game in Harrisonburg this past weekend and cheering on the Dukes with Virginia's own Governor Glenn Youngkin, First Lady Suzanne Youngkin, and Attorney General Jason Miyares.
