House Agriculture Committee Ranking Member David Scott aimed at extreme Republican proposals to undermine SNAP benefits for food-insecure Americans in an op-ed published this month by The Hill

"Despite its track record of reducing hunger, creating jobs, and having a positive economic impact on the communities where SNAP is used, a chorus of partisan voices is calling for aggressive cuts to the program," Congressman Scott wrote.

House Agriculture Committee Ranking Member David Scott: There Will Be No Turning Back on SNAP

Congressman David Scott (GA-13), Ranking Member of the U.S. House Agriculture Committee, soundly rejected proposals to reduce access to SNAP benefits during his appearance at the at the 2023 Agri-Pulse Ag & Food Policy Summit. In Q&A with Agri-Pulse Contributing Editor Jeff Nalley, Congressman Scott warned against efforts to make harmful cuts to SNAP in the upcoming Farm Bill, noting that Democrats will stand united in their support for this essential program.

“We’re going to strengthen agriculture, not weaken it,” underscored Congressman David Scott, as he urged support for small producers and emphasized the need for policies that help our small farmers access funding and direct marketing opportunities.

Marietta Daily Journal Reports: Rep. Scott Looks to Expand Funding for HBCU Agricultural Science Scholarships

The Marietta Daily Journal reported on a bill that Congressman David Scott introduced in Congress this month to provide an additional $100 million in funding for 1890 land-grant HBCU scholarships. 

“Bringing a diverse range of talented, young, creative minds into our agriculture industry is vital to our future success,” stated Congressman Scott. “For, if we do not do our part here in Congress to invest in these outstanding students, we risk exacerbating the already difficult challenge of an aging generation of producers, farmers, and agriculture business owners, which are critical to maintaining our food supply and our number one trading asset, which is agriculture.”

Georgia Credit Unions Names Congressman David Scott Lawmaker of The Year

This month, Congressman David Scott was named Lawmaker of the Year by the Georgia Credit Unions. "I am grateful for the recognition and appreciate the opportunity to work with financial services institutions and their patrons across  Georgia. As a member of the U.S. House Financial Services Committee, I look forward to continuing this important work," Congressman Scott stated.
