I hope that this message finds you well. As your Thirteenth Congressional District Representative, I want to share some important updates with you from the past month:

Hosting Community Officials from Stockbridge, Lovejoy, Hampton, Union City, and Riverdale

Congressman David Scott recently hosted community officials from Stockbridge, Lovejoy, Hampton, Union City, and Riverdale in his Washington, D.C. office in the U.S. Capitol. Congressman David Scott Named Federal Leader in Financial Literacy

During Financial Literacy Month, Congressman David Scott (GA-13) was awarded the Federal Leadership Award by the Jump$tart Coalition as part of the 2023 Financial Literacy Awards ceremony. The award recognizes leaders from the federal government who are using their platform to promote financial literacy and financial education.

“It is an honor to be recognized by the Jump$tart Coalition for my work to help young Americans build confidence and capability in their financial knowledge,” stated Congressman Scott. “By embracing financial education early, our young people can learn essential life skills that will equip them to make informed financial decisions, from managing the costs of higher education to even purchasing a home. I thank the Jump$tart Coalition and its members for the work they do every day to ensure all Americans have access to financial tools and support.”

Ranking Member Scott Condemns Inclusion of SNAP Work Requirements in Republican Debt Limit Framework

This month, House Agriculture Committee Ranking Member David Scott released the following statement in response to Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s debt limit framework which includes additional punitive work requirements to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP):

"Let me be perfectly clear: holding food assistance hostage for those who depend on it, including 15.3 million of our children, 5.8 million of our seniors, and 1.2 million of our veterans, in exchange for increasing the debt limit is a non-starter. The ransom note that Speaker McCarthy unveiled in front of a crowd of Wall Street bankers today is dead on arrival."

Congressman David Scott Announces Bipartisan Legislation to Diversify STEM Education

Congressman Scott was joined by Representatives Mark Takano (CA-41), Drew Ferguson (GA-03), and Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01) in announcing the reintroduction of H.R. 2475, the Making Advances Kinetic, Education, Research and Skills (MAKERS) Act of 2023.

“From developing a prototype to inventing the next new piece of technology, makerspaces allow students to experiment with hands-on equipment while learning the skills needed to excel in the STEM workforce,” said Congressman David Scott. “With this legislation, students will be able to learn a concept in the classroom and then put that concept to use in their schools’ makerspace, helping the student master the material from start to finish. I’m proud that my bipartisan bill embraces inclusion and hones in on diversifying the STEM field.”
