A message from Congresswoman Ann Wagner

Dear Arthur,

President Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan was a complete and utter disaster. The recent State Department report makes it clear the Administration made irresponsible mistakes that cost the lives of many, including American soldiers, and betrayed our Afghan allies.  President Biden has done nothing to take responsibility for his failures, going so far as to hide a dissent cable his own diplomats wrote voicing concerns about the withdrawal.  I’ve read that dissent cable, and I am appalled at their attempts to keep it not just from the public, but from members of the Foreign Affairs Committee duly exercising our oversight role.  I would even say President Biden has put more thought into hiding that cable than planning his botched withdrawal from Afghanistan. To add insult to injury, he even recently denied the Taliban and al Qaeda are a problem in Afghanistan.  The willful ignorance is stunning.  The world is much less safe today than it was before the Administration’s dishonorable flight from Afghanistan. He has seriously damaged American credibility, emboldening adversaries like China, Russia, and Iran.

I joined Ballwin Mayor Tim Pogue, City Administrator Eric Sterman, and Police Chief Doug Schaeffler, as well as other county officials and local law enforcement, for the dedication of Ballwin’s new Police Department. The station was dedicated in honor of Officer Mike Flamion who was tragically shot in the line of duty seven years ago. The address of the station is 302 Kehrs Mill Road, after Officer Flamion’s badge number 302. I was honored to fly an American flag over the United States Capitol that will now fly outside the new station.

The Supreme Court has finally declared that President Biden’s reckless action to forgive student loan debt is unconstitutional.  Student loan debt forgiveness would have been nothing more than a taxpayer funded giveaway to those with higher incomes, and it would have been deeply unjust for those who decided to forgo college, or who worked hard to pay off the debts they knowingly signed up for.

The Court also recently decided that Affirmative Action policies in college admissions are unconstitutional.  This is something we have known for a long time, and our nation agrees it is simply wrong to make these decisions based on the color of one’s skin.  College admissions should be based on who you are as a person and on what you have achieved as a student.

The State Department is experiencing an incredibly high demand for passports that is resulting in delayed processing times over the 10-13 weeks estimated for renewal.  Check now to see if your passport is still valid and contact us here if you have urgent travel or need any other assistance.  Remember, many countries require that your passport be valid for at least six months after your planned departure.

I signed on to a letter calling on the Administration to fully implement sanctions on Iran in coordination with our allies. We must maintain a strong stance against the Iranian regime to prevent any future threats against global stability. I am gravely concerned that the Biden Administration’s renewed nuclear talks with Iran will only embolden this dangerous and abusive regime.

Sincerely,

Ann Wagner
Member of Congress
