A message from Congresswoman Ann Wagner

Dear Arthur,

It was an honor to speak at the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Human Trafficking Symposium and kick off a day of training to help law enforcement, private and public sector partners, advocates, and so many others in our ongoing fight against human trafficking.  There are far too many victims of this abhorrent crime in our communities, and it is critical we all have the tools we need to identify human trafficking wherever it may occur and bring perpetrators to justice.

Thank you to Acting Special Agent in Charge Taekuk Cho for presenting me an award recognizing my work to fight for victims of trafficking.  It is incumbent upon us to do all we can to prevent the sexual exploitation of some of the most vulnerable in our world, especially the innocent children who cannot protect themselves. This is an all hands on deck fight, and I look forward to working with HSI and our other law enforcement partners to protect victims from the horrors of human trafficking and sexual exploitation.  I also highlighted my Child Online Safety Modernization Act, bipartisan legislation that enhances reporting of online child exploitation and requires online platforms to report child sex trafficking.  This legislation will also make it clear that images and videos of children being raped is not ‘pornography,’ it is sexual abuse of a child.

President Biden’s horrifically mismanaged retreat from Afghanistan two years ago touched off a humanitarian tragedy of immense proportions. Our nation is still grieving the unthinkable loss of the 13 servicemembers killed at Abbey Gate, including Missouri’s own Lance Corporal Jared Schmitz. These brave young soldiers gave their lives to aid Americans and Afghan allies fleeing the Taliban’s advance, and we will always honor their sacrifice.  The Administration’s dishonorable flight from Afghanistan was a betrayal of our servicemembers and the brave Afghans who lived, worked, and fought alongside them. America is less safe today because of these actions, and the Administration needs to take responsibility for its staggering failures. As Vice Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I continue to work with my colleagues to get to the bottom of this debacle and hold the Administration accountable.

I had a great roundtable event with the St. Louis Elder Financial Protection Coalition about how we can work together to protect older adults in our community from fraud and abuse.  We discussed the ways in which the coalition is working to educate older adults on how to spot scammers, as well as my Financial Exploitation Protection Act, legislation that recently passed the House and will help protect our seniors.

The State Department is experiencing an incredibly high demand for passports that is resulting in delayed processing times over the 10-13 weeks estimated for renewal.  Check now to see if your passport is still valid and contact us here if you have urgent travel or need any other assistance.  Remember, many countries require that your passport be valid for at least six months after your planned departure.

My office continues to provide constituent services to those who need our help.  Whether it is a Medicare issue, a problem with the VA or the IRS, or even getting a passport expedited, we can help.  Call us at our district offices at 636-779-5449 or 636-231-1001 or visit our website here.

Sincerely,

Ann Wagner
Member of Congress
