Dear Arthur,
It has been three years since the Taliban took over Afghanistan, a direct result of the Biden-Harris Administration’s reckless withdrawal from the country. Thirteen U.S. servicemembers died because of the rushed departure from Afghanistan, all amidst a total abandonment of American citizens and Afghans who risked their lives in support of our mission. The Administration should be ashamed of their actions, and we will hold them accountable for the complete and utter surrender to the Taliban.
Last week, I joined my colleagues in officially introducing the SAFER at the Border Act, legislation that would protect our communities from known or suspected terrorists who are attempting to cross the border and enter our country. The wide-open border is a danger to our entire nation, and it is vital we secure it and prevent illegal immigrants who are drug traffickers or even terrorists from sneaking into our neighborhoods.
The reports of unmitigated abuse and sexual harassment at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) shocked us all. I have called on Chairman of the FDIC Martin Gruenberg to resign in light of these reports, but he has so far refused. My colleagues and I on the Financial Services Committee again called on Chairman Gruenberg to resign and appear before our committee to explain why he is putting a partisan agenda over justice for victims of harassment and abuse. Recently, a federal judge ruled against a burdensome and unconstitutional set of regulations that would have hurt local financial advisors and Main Street investors here in Missouri. At a time when inflation is hurting families and people need our help to save for their future and that of their children, we must ensure that state and federal governments do not overregulate an industry that is already subject to countless, often stifling, regulations.
