Dear Friend,

Last week, we had a short break from votes in Washington, D.C. which gave us the welcome opportunity to head back to the Sixth Congressional District.

On Friday, we had the chance to recognize multiple outstanding constituents who have made significant contributions to their communities. First, we had the opportunity to meet with a local hero, 4-year-old Asher Milless.

In November, Asher saved his mother’s life during a medical emergency. When Rachel Milless collapsed in her kitchen, Asher called his grandmother, opened the front door for first responders, and even got his mother’s nebulizer working while they were waiting for help to arrive. Asher demonstrated quick thinking and bravery that would be impressive for any of us. In recognition of his bravery, I presented Asher with a Congressional Record statement in his honor. Our community is lucky to have such a courageous kid.

Later that day, we had the opportunity to meet with Sartell Police Chief Jim Hughes. Chief Hughes, who is retiring this month after more than 32 years of service to the Sartell community, has seen the city grow from a few thousand to nearly 20,000 residents.

In that time, he has worked to build trust between the department and the Sartell community, which has resulted in decreased crime and increased confidence in law enforcement. During our meeting, I presented him with a Congressional Record statement in recognition of his service to the Sartell community. Chief Hughes, thank you for your years of service, and we hope you enjoy your well-deserved retirement. You can read more about our meeting here.

We also had the opportunity to sit down with outgoing Greater St. Cloud Development Corporation (GSDC) President Patti Gartland to thank her for her years of work on behalf of the St. Cloud region. Patti has served as the President of GSDC since June 1, 2013.

Patti oversaw the considerable economic expansion of the Greater St. Cloud region, including the launch of GreaterStCloudJobSpot.com and St. Cloud Shines, initiatives designed to attract workers and businesses to the St. Cloud area.

We have had the pleasure of knowing and working with Patti for many years, and she has always been a steadfast advocate for the St. Cloud community. As a thank you for her work, I presented Patti with a Congressional Record statement in recognition of her service to the St. Cloud region. While we will miss her diligent work on behalf of our community, we thank her for her efforts and wish her all the best in her retirement. You can read more about my meeting with Patti here.

Stay tuned for more on our work in Minnesota and Washington and subscribe here to make sure you never miss an update from our office.

Sincerely,
